Abstract
1310995 Vacuum sewage systems WARTSILA AB OY 19 Aug 1970 [20 Aug 1969] 39841/70 Heading E1C In a vacuum sewage system, an upper collecting chamber 4 for sewage received from an inlet 1 is normally sealed from a lower chamber 5 by a flap valve 7 which is maintained shut under the action of atmospheric pressure communicated to the chamber 5 from a vent pipe 11 via a three-way valve 10, so that sewage builds up in the chamber 4, either for a predetermined time or until the level has reached and operated a sensor 12, at which time valve 10 is caused to move to a position connecting vacuum pipe 2 with the lower chamber 5, as a result of which the sewage is discharged into the lower chamber, since its weight can then easily overcome the effect of a small counterweight on the flap valve 7, the sewage then being similarly held by a second flap valve until valve 10 has been returned to the position shown, this allowing the sewage to drop into a collecting receptacle 6. Preferably the receptacle 6 is detachable since the arrangement allows a lightweight receptacle to be used which can be removed without interfering with the maintenance of vacuum in the system.
