Abstract
1310418 Dust bag for vacuum cleaner ELECTROLUX Ltd 8 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 29655/70 Heading BIT A dust bag for a vacuum cleaner comprises a paper bag 26 attached to an end plate 27, having a central fold line 39 and a central opening 34 which is bridged by an apertured rubber membrane 32 whose central aperture is normally closed by two fingers 37a and 37b which extend diagonally of and meet at gold line 39. Fingers 37a and 37b are integral with the end plate and may be separated along line 38 in manufacture, but as shown they are only partly separated and the inlet nozzle of the vacuum cleaner completes the separation when the bag is installed therein (Fig. 8, not shown). Lines 38, 39 preferably extend at between 20 and 40 degrees to the lengths of the fingers, which are at least twice as wide as the membrane aperture. The membrane is sandwiched between two plies of plate 27 (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), and the plate is folded about line 39 in the process of glueing it to the bag 26 as described in Specification 1,305,709. Fingers 37a, 37b are forced through the membrane aperture by the insertion therethrough of the inlet nozzle and remain on the inside of the membrane when the nozzle is withdrawn, but return to the plane of plate 27 under the elasticity of the membrane to close the aperture to retain the dust in the bag.
