Abstract

1309750 Hydraulic shock absorbers with pneumatic springs ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO Ltd 21 July 1970 [22 July 1969] 36774/69 Heading F2S The tubular diaphragm 22 of a pneumatic spring is attached to a tube-within-a-tube type hydraulic shock absorber. 10 by means of a retainer ring 16 or 40 secured to a component of the shock absorber (e.g. the reservoir tube 12 or a dust cover 34 carried by the piston rod 11) and having a portion 50, Fig. 2, radially spaced from the component. An end of the diaphragm, which may have a bead 48, is inserted between this portion 50 and the component, and then the portion is deformed to clamp the end of the diaphragm against the component. The shock absorber has a valved piston and flow throttling means between the tubes.
