1307460 Splitting blocks of material KARL REICHERT GmbH [trading as KRAUSS U REICHERT SPEZIALMASCHINENFABRIK] 21 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59364/71 Heading B4B A machine for slicing sheets from blocks of material, e.g. rubber or plastics, comprises a pair of reciprocably mounted tables 45, 46 for supporting respective blocks of material, means 47, 49, 50, 51 for displacing the support means in opposite directions, and means 29, 30 for displacing a band knife 10 between positions for slicing layers from each of the blocks alternately as the blocks are displaced towards the band knife. The band knife 10 is carried by pulleys 6, 7, 8, 9 mounted in housings 4 connected by a yoke, the housing being connected to arms 14; the pulley 9 is rotated by a motor 11. The arms 14 are slidable on rails 22, 23, 23a by means of rollers 20, 21, Fig. 3 (not shown), the band knife being moved between its two alternate positions by means of a chain-andsprocket drive 29, 30 actuated by a motor (27). The band knife is raised and lowered by means of threaded spindles 39 engaging nuts 38 mounted on guides 26 which are fixed to the ends of the rails 22, 23, 23a; the spindles are rotated by a motor 44 via shafts 42. The tables 45, 46 are reciprocated back and forth by means of cable-and-pulley drives 52, 54 and 53, 55; the pulleys are rotated by a motor 47 via a gear-box 49 and shafts 50, 51. In operation, e.g. as table 45 is moved in one direction so that a sheet is cut from the block thereon, the table is returned in the opposite direction. When the sheet is cut from the block on table 45, the knife carriage is moved to its other position while, at the same, it is lowered. The table 46 is then moved so that a sheet is cut from the block thereon. In modifications instead of the knife being lowered, the tables may be raised and the rigid tables replaced by conveyer bands.
