Abstract

1302550 Welding by pressure JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 2 June 1970 [22 Aug 1969] 41908/69 Heading B3R [Also in Division H1] An electrical connection to an air electrode is made by forming through holes 14 along one edge of substrate 11, metallizing the edge, for example, by painting with a silver metallizing preparation, placing a U-shaped conductivestrip 15, e.g. of nickel, along the prepared edge which strip is lightly pressed down, pressing the strip through holes 14 until a contact is made, and then interconnecting the two sides of strip 15 through holes 14 by resistance spot welding. A terminal is formed on strip 15, e.g. by bending a part of the strip. Substrate 11 may be a porous polythene sheet which is coated on one side with nickel 12, part 13 of which is catalysed to provide the active material.
