Abstract

1,089,925. Capacitors. LONDON ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Aug. 16, 1966 [Oct. 8, 1965], No. 42767/65. Heading H1M. A sheet of thin dielectric material such as mica has rows of holes punched in it, e.g. as shown six sets of three holes, and areas 18 to 30 are metallized, the metallizing being continued through the holes to cover the walls thereof. A symmetrical pattern is metallized on the opposite side, the strip 30 contacting the strip corresponding to strip 18. The sheet is severed through the holes and between the sets of holes into nine plates which are assembled to form a capacitor, similar metallized areas being in contact and a straight edge always being adjacent an edge containing half holes. To form reliable electrical contact between the plates, the edges which include the metallized half-holes are coated with a metal paste, the capacitor being heated to convert the paste to a homogeneous metal coating to which electrical connections may be made. When only a few plates are used, added thickness may be achieved by means of end packing sheets formed by severing the sheet shown in Fig. 3 which is rather thicker than the first, and is metallized along strips 35 to 38 on both sides and on the walls of the punched holes. The paste and the metallizing may be of silver.
