Abstract

1392036 Vehicle lamp assemblies JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 19 July 1972 [30 July 1971] 35863/71 Heading F4R A lamp assembly for a vehicle includes a lamp unit 11 comprising a lens 13 and reflector 12 interconnected at their peripheries 14, a plurality of brackets 15 disposed around the lamp unit periphery, each bracket 15 having a hook portion 16 engaging the periphery 14 and a blade portion 17 extending from the lamp unit, and a retaining ring 21 engaging each of the brackets 15 between its hook and blade portions for clamping the brackets to the lamp unit. Each bracket 15 is formed from steel strip and adjacent the blade portion 17 is a foot portion 18 which engages the reflector 12. The retaining ring 21, which comprises a wire loop whose ends are interconnected by a screw fastening device 23, engages in a stirrup 19 of the bracket 15 and is held therein when the bracket flexes as the ring 21 is tightened. Barbs (24), Fig. 3 (not shown) in the open end of the stirrup may assist in retaining the ring 21. In an arrangement described in which three brackets are equiangularly spaced, the radically projecting blade portions of two brackets engage respective adjustable connectors (screws) on a body part supporting the lamp unit and a third bracket is connected to the body either by a rubber bush or by a tension spring. The body part, which may be in the form of a rectangular annulus, also includes three angularly spaced inwardly directed arms which slidably engage the reflector of the lamp unit. The position of the lamp unit is thus adjustable by means of the screws connecting the two brackets to the body part.
