Abstract
1,221,895. Stranding wires. SIEMENS A.G. 23 July, 1969 [23 July, 1968 (2)], No. 37158/ 69. Heading D1T. A storage stranding machine of the kind making cable with reversed directions of lay is characterized in that the ratio between the drawing-off speed of rotation of the store and the speed of rotation of the store is always substantially constant even on reversal of rotation. The preferred variation of the rotational speed in of the store as a function of time t is shown in Fig. 2; and the preferred variation of the speed of the strand as it is drawn from the store is shown in Fig. 3. It will be seen that a substantially constant ratio always exists between, their two speeds, even on reversal of rotation. The period L corresponds to the period of time in which the store performs the desired number of revolutions in one direction before reversing. The period L also corresponds to the period of time in which a length of the strand elements which corresponds to the storage capacity of the store, runs into the latter. Figure 4 shown five stores 1 each of which operates as described above. They operate simultaneously and the five units which they provide (for example star quads) are twisted together by a rotating store 14 that also operates as described above. Between each store I and the store 14 the unit 9 passes through a length store 10, consisting of rollers 11 and 12, which support (loops of the units. The stores 1 may have different speeds of rotation and need not all have the same direction of rotation at any instant. In this way an electrical decoupling of the units subsequently stranded to form the cable 15 is ensured. The individual units 9 are passed around the rollers 11 and 12 with different numbers of turns, so that the units have different lengths of travel in passing from the stores 1 to the die 13. This ensures that the points of the individual units at which the twisting direction is reversed do not lie in juxtaposition to one another after the stranding of the units to form the cable 15. An identifying helix is applied by a device 16.
