Abstract
1375454 Ink ribbon mechanism INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 30 Aug 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 40159/72 Heading B6F An ink ribbon cassette 14 comprises a chamber increasing in width from its entrance opening towards its exit opening, to receive folds of an endless ribbon 16. The chamber is curved and is defined by a teardrop-shaped casing divided by a curved guide. The cassette is mounted on a wire mosaic print carriage 12 displaced along the print line by a lead screw 30, the ribbon being fed by a roller 78 driven by one of a pair of gear-wheels (92, 94, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) each engaging the shaft carrying the roller 78 through a respective unidirectional clutch (96, 98, Fig. 2) and meshing with a respective rack 100, 102 is that the ribbon is always fed in the same direction regardless of the direction of motion of the carriage 12. The ribbon is twisted at 116 to form a Mobius loop. The ribbon is urged against the roller 78 by a flexible finger 74 engaged by a projection 108 on a pressure lever 104 when the cassette is mounted on the carriage 12.
