Abstract

1343978 Transfers; transferring designs CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 21983/71 Heading B6C A transfer used to decorate polyurethane surfaces comprises a temporary carrier of paper, aluminium or regenerated cellulose, a release layer comprising an alkyl cellulose (e.g. ethyl cellulose), polystyrene or a mixture of nitrocellulose and an aminoplast and a transferable layer of a vinyl resin. The aminoplast may be a urea-formaldehyde resin, and the vinyl resin may be P.V.C. or a vinyl chloride/ vinyl acetate copolymer. The vinyl resin layer may be pigmented or may be unpigmented and carry a superimposed layer of pigmented vinyl resin. Alternatively the vinyl resin layer may carry pigmented or unpigmented layers of a non-crosslinking acrylic resin. In use the active surface of the transfer is coated with the precursors of a polyurethane and the coating is dried to form the polyurethane and laminated to a cotton or polyamide tricot fabric. Removal of the release layer provides a decorated polyurethane coating on a fabric base. A protective polyurethane coating may be applied to the exposed surface of the transfer.
