Abstract

1,225,174. Lubricating; bolt. EATON AXLES Ltd. 9 April, 1968 [19 May, 1967], No. 17105/68. Headings F2A and F2H. A gear 14, Fig. 6, of a vehicle drive mechanism collects lubricant from a reservoir 11a formed in a gear chamber of an axle housing 11 and distributes it through the mechanism, via a filter unit 30, Figs. 1 and 2, which is attached by studs 33, 34 to the housing 11. The filter unit has an annular filter 32 which surrounds the stud 34 and has a cover 60 which is attached by means of screws 61 to a filter box 31. The studs 33, 34 are each provided with an axial passage 120 and 130 and with an interconnecting radial passage 120a or 131. The stud members 33, 34 are threaded into tapped openings 70, 71 respectively in the housing 11 and are locked in position by means of a strap member 72, Fig. 2, and nuts 73, 74 which are threaded on to the respective stud member. Lubricant is removed from the gear 14 by means of a member 21, Fig. 6, and is conveyed through the passages 120, 120a in the stud 33; through the filter 32; through the passages 131, 130 in the stud 34; and to the mechanism.
