Abstract
821,590. Change-speed gearing. EATON AXLES Ltd. Aug. 1, 1957 [Aug. 13, 1956], No. 24409/57. Addition to 813,031. Class 80 (2). In the two-speed axle of the parent Specification, the reaction of the epicyclic gear at low speed is taken by a plate 104 bolted to the casing and having a row of internal teeth 112 engageable with a row of external teeth 114 on the clutch collar. The plate 104 has an external cylindrical surface 124 which locates within a bearing adjusting ring 122 and ensures that the securing bolts are stressed in shear. The bearing adjusting-ring 122 is locked by a key carried in the bearing-cap and engaging slots in the rings.
