Abstract

1,221,426. Magnetic compositions. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 27 March, 1968 [11 April, l967], No. 16414/67. Heading H1H. A ferrite containing a basic oxide is produced by dissolving the metals or compounds of the metals present in the ferrite in HNO 3 , decomposing the solution and heating to form the ferrite, passing the nitrous gases from the decomposition and solution stages through an absorption system for recovering HNO 3 , using the HNO 3 to form the nitrate solution, passing the tail gases of the absorption system through a dispersion of a basic oxide present in the ferrite, and dissolving the modified dispersion in HN0 3 to form at least part of the nitrate solution of this metal. In the example, a solution of Fe, Zn and Mn nitrates was sprayed on to a surface held at 250Œ10‹ C. and the oxide powder was discharged into a calcination chamber held at above 650‹ C., e.g. 800‹ C. The product contained 71 wt per cent Fe 2 O 3 , 14.02% ZnO, and 15.06% MnO, and was 60% spinel. Also mentioned is (Ba, Sr) Fe 12 O 19 , for which a decomposition temperature of 750‹ C. is used.
