Abstract
1,211,035. Reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 8 Oct., 1968 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 3841/68. Heading G6C. [Also in Division F2] A valve, used in a nuclear reactor having a complex of vertically extending pressure tubes for containing nuclear fuel and conducting coolant, comprises a closure member 2 rotatable in housing 1 by an actuating shaft 6 extending parallel to the pressure tubes. The closure has a series of gear teeth 5 co-operating with a bevel gears 7 of the shaft 6. To withdraw irradiated fuel from a pressure tube a refuelling machine is connected to the portion 1a of the housing and pressurized to reduce the pressure differential across the seating 11. The valve is opened remotely by spindle 8 and the irradiated fuel is withdrawn.
