[Also in Division C3] A process for the production of cold setting foundry cores or moulds comprises discharging simultaneously by means of compressed gas a synthetic resin coated granular refractory material from a container therefor and a granular refractory material, e.g. sand, coated with a hardener for the resin from a separate container, into a chamber where the two refractory materials intermingle and thence into a mould- or core-box where the mixture is allowed to set. The resin and hardener are selected so that the moulding mixture sets within 5 minutes at 25‹ C., suitable combinations of resin and hardener being urea-formaldehyde and phosphoric acid. polyhydroxy compounds and a polyisocyanate, liquid epoxy resins and a strong acid or Friedel-Crafts catalysts, and polyesters and organic peroxides.
