Abstract
1327653 Injection moulding abrasive articles METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 26 April 1971 [2 May 1970] 11464/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division C4] In a process for the manufacture of abrasive articles such as spheres for use in drum grinding processes, plastics or rubber material to be used as a binder is mixed with powdered or granular abrasive material, and the mixture shaped by an injection moulding in a mould comprising a central sprue connected to a plurality of mould cavities-after removal of the moulded bodies from the sprues, the latter may be comminuted and added to the next charge of mixture to be injection moulded. The abrasive which is present in the amount of 5-80% by weight of the finished article, may be corundum, quartz or silicon carbide. Suitable plastics materials for the binder are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, p.v.c. A foaming agent may be used.
