Abstract
1,204,908. Granulating. MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET. 30 Oct., 1967 [29 Oct., 1966], No. 49163/67. Heading B5A. Fusible materials which melt at less than 200‹ C. and preferably less than 110‹ C., e.g. parafin waxes or suspended finely granulated powders, such as soot and sulphur, are granulated by introducing the molten material from a supply nozzle or nozzles into an upwardly flowing conveying fluid of higher density, whereby drops are formed which are then cooled by a coolant fluid introduced into the conveying fluid. The particular embodiments relate to granulating paraffin wax, wherein the conveying fluid is water at 5-10‹ C. above the melting point of the wax in the region of the nozzles and is thereafter cooled to 25-30‹ C. by a cold water jacket surrounding the conveying fluid and by cold water introduced by the jacket into the conveying fluid. The granulating apparatus includes a heated container 2 for the liquid wax, and flow adjustable warm and cold water distributers 7 and 9. Molten wax is supplied, via a flow adjustable funnel 3 and a warm water jacketed tube 4 and warm water heated gland 25, to nozzles 5 which project into tubes 8 supplied at the base thereof with warm conveying water from tubes 6 and cooled at the upper portions thereof by a cold water jacket 12 from which cold water enters the tubes 8 via perforations 11 therein. The warm water is supplied from a boiler 1 at 60-70‹ C. The hardened granules are conveyed up the tubes 8 thence on to a cooled plate 13, wherefrom they roll down a water separating channel 14 into a centrifuge 15. In a modified apparatus, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tubes (8) are provided in separate relatively adjustable sections in the region of the cooling jacket, whereby the amount of cold water introduced may additionally be adjusted. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the tubes (8) are open-ended in the region of the nozzles (5) and are also positionally adjustable with respect thereto to control the admission of warm water from a surrounding jacket.
