Abstract
1,204,032. Transferring blanks. BUDD CO. 28 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 58930/67. Heading B3Q. A clamping apparatus for transferring workpieces to successive working stations comprises a pair of jaws 92, 94 pivoted to a support 54 and controlled by a clevis 68 which is reciprocated by rollers 40, 42, 46, 48 on a follower 44 which run in slots in a cam block 24 and side-plates 14, 16, the clevis 68 and the follower 44 are connected by a bolt 70 slidable in the clevis. A series of spring washers 74 determine the clamping force applied by the jaws and are replaceable for different sizes of workpiece. The outer rollers 46, 48 each run in a right-angled slot 52a, 52b and the inner rollers run in inclined slots 36. The support 54 is slidable in a cross-head 56 journalled to the cam-plates. The block 24 is reciprocated by a rod 34. In operation with the jaws open and the support 54 inclined the block 24 is moved rightwards, Fig. 2, to cause the outer rollers 46, 48 to travel along the horizontal slots 52a and pivot the support 54 up to the vertical. The inner rollers 40, 42 rotate at the bottom of the slots 36 until the outer rollers move up the vertical slot 52b, whereupon the inner rollers move up the slots 36 until they reach a locking surface 37. The upward movement of the rollers causes the follower 44 to move towards the clevis 68 and the bolt head to move away from its support 72. The spring pressure moves the clevis relative to the support to close the jaws 92, 94. The jaws are opened and the support 54 moved from the vertical when the cam block is moved leftwards.
