Abstract

1,200,840. Injection moulding. T. FUKUOKA. 14 Dec., 1968, No. 59603/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions El and H5] A toilet seat has a core of foamed synthetic resin and an integral outer casing of the same synthetic resin which is not foamed. The seat is made by a continuous injection moulding technique, in intermittent moulding cycles in which a mass of resin granules is compacted at temperature less than the foaming temperature (T f ) and a portion of this is heated in a second zone to temperature higher than T f , this portion being restrained from foaming by the remainder of the compacted resin, a part of the heated portion is injected into an enlargeable mould and is exteriorly cooled therein to form the outer solid casing, the mould is enlarged and the interior of the seat expands to form the foamed core. Preferred resin is polystyrene, blowing agents e.g. dichlorodifluoromethane, CO 2 , C 5 H 12 may be used.
