Abstract
1282956 Mixing CENTRO SPERIMENTALE METALLURGICO SpA 1 July 1970 [1 July 1969] 32023/70 Heading B1C [Also in Division C7] A liquid is mixed with a solid or another liquid in a vessel 3 which is rotated about its own vertical axis, alternately in opposite rotational directions, so as to cause the surface 2 of the mixture to form a paraboloidal shape owing to centrifugal force. Vessel 3 has trunnions 4 located in grooves 5 of a rotatable envelope 6, or the envelope may be non- rotatable. In an example the vessel containing hot metal and slag was rotated for 2-4 minutes in each direction at a peripheral speed of 200-300 m/minute with a stationary period of not more than 30 seconds inbetween. A reducing, oxidizing, or inert gas which may be heated is blown into the vessel through lance 7. A base metal and a master alloy may be mixed. The vessel may be of metal and may have a refractory lining.
