Abstract
1,155,857. Agitating molten metals. SONEN S.A. 15 Aug., 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 36485/66. Heading B1C. [Also in Divisions C7 and F4] A vessel 12 for refining iron or steel has circumferentially spaced side wall zones of different diameters and is rotatable about an axis inclined to the horizontal by means of mechanism 17 whereby opposed wave trains are generated in at least the surface region of the bath, these waves merging to form a central disturbance which projects refining agent deeply into the metal. The vessel has two curved and two flat walls 13, 14 and the floor 15 has zones 16 sloping upwardly towards the side walls, whereby the submerged agent is caused to move radially outwards and upwardly along the .side walls; it may also be fitted with an oxygen lance 20.
