Abstract

1279939 Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 2 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 4910/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, has a backing which comprises a stable blend of (1) 100 parts of film-forming polymer of monomers in which the major proportion is vinyl chloride and (2) 30-15 parts of non-volatile plasticiser, at least 15 parts of which is an epoxidised fatty acid ester having an oxirane value above 4%, an iodine value below 5, a hydroxyl number above 30 and a number average molecular weight, determined by the vapour pressure method, of 600-3,000. The epoxidized fatty acid ester may be of a natural fatty acid such as tall oil or an epoxidised natural triglyceride such as soybean oil or linseed oil. Numerous suitable adhesive compositions are listed.
