Abstract

1,274,676. Valves. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 2 Oct., 1969 [17 Oct., 1968], No. 49332/68. Heading F2V. A rotatable sliding plate valve for the air circuit of a gas turbine fuel control system comprises a valve body with inlet and outlet, and a plate-like valve member co-operating with port means and angularly movable by an actuating means to opposite sides of a mid position in which the port means is closed, so as progressively to open the port means on either side of the mid position. Means are provided for adjusting the effective radial distance between the rotational axis of the valve member and the port means so as to vary the rate at which the progressive opening occurs. In one form as shown the valve plate 66 is mounted through a carrier 65 and spring blade 64 on a lever 63 of which the pivot 6 la is adjustable as to its radial distance from the port means 84 by a stem 62. An operating lever 55 engages the lever 63 on opposite sides through abutment pins. Lever 55 carries a roller follower 54 operated by a three-part cam 68, 69, 70 which provides a centre dwell portion flanked by rise portions. The port means comprises a pattern of small orifices arranged in radial and circumferential rows relative to the mid position of the pivot 80. In opening, an edge 78 of the plate uncovers the orifices. In another form, Figs. 1-8 (not shown), it is the port means which is adjustable. In this embodiment, radially adjustable side plates (23, 24) on opposite sides of the control element (16) have an array of drilled ports (25). The side plates are mounted in carrier plates (29, 30) which are also angularly adjustable.
