Abstract

1,272,894. Methacrylonitrile copolymers. N. T. NOTLEY. 23 Sept., 1970 [13 Jan., 1970; 23 Jan., 1970], No. 45225/70. Heading C3P. [Also in Division G2] Methacrylonitrile is copolymerized with mono - chlorostyrene, alphamethylstyrene, styrene or vinyltoluene by emulsifying the monomers in water containing a wetting agent and adding ammonium persulphate, sodium metabisulphite and sodium pyrophosphate. The emulsion is stirred and then broken with aluminium sulphate. Methaorylonitrile / acrylonitrile copolymer is also similarly prepared but using ammonium persulphate and sodium bisulphite.
