Abstract

1,263,786. Wells &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 21 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 25847/69. Heading E1F. A marine conductor 42 yieldably supportted by a vessel has a connector 43c for engagement with the entry mandrel 28 of an underwater wellhead 21, and a pull down device 60 having a latch 74 adapted to engage a post 30 fixed to the wellhead, the device pulling the connector onto the mandrel after the latch has engaged the post. The device comprises an hydraulic cylinder and piston, the cylinder 63 being fixed to the conductor, and the piston rod 70 carrying the latch which is hydraulically operated. The device is guided to the post along a line 31 extending from the post to the vessel, and the connector is aligned with the mandrel by a pin 82 on the connector engaging a cam 83 on the post. The line is part of the arrangement for guiding a marine conductor and described in co-pending Application 25846/69.
