Abstract

1,251,447. Regulating I. C. engines. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. March 11, 1969 [March 12, 1968], No. 12806/69. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine governor, which includes a fuel injection pump 2, Fig. 1 whose delivery quantity can be varied by an adjusting member 5 coupled to an operating lever 3, a curved track 10a, 10b, which is adjustable in dependence on engine speed, limits the movement of the adjusting member in some speed ranges for a maximum or minimum fuel delivery and positively guides the adjusting member in other speed ranges corresponding to the desired quantity of fuel. The engine 1 drives an electric generator 19 connected to a motor 12 which drives the disc 9 through a worm gear 23. A potentiometer slider 14 turns with the disc over an element 16 connected to a D.C. source 17. The motor 12 is energized only when there is a voltage difference between generator 19 and slider 14 to rotate disc 9 into a position corresponding to the engine speed. When lever 3 is moved in the direction of the arrow, the adjusting member 5 is moved, whilst extending spring 6, in the fuel increasing direction. When follower 8 shuts the track portion 10b further movement of lever 3 can only stretch spring 4. If the fuel supply is interrupted to stop the engine the disc is turned clockwise to move the adjusting member into a position giving an excess fuel delivery for starting. In modifications the potentiometer is replaced by inductive or capacitative adjusters, the voltage on motor 12 is amplified, and the motor 12 is connected to a current source and switched on and off by a relay responsive to the voltage difference.
