A chair &c. has rigid side members a each comprising an integrally formed frame providing a back part, a rear leg, a base part, a front leg, and an arm part, the side members being interconnected by cross rails b to provide a rigid framework. Side members a comprise strip material of laminated wood, wood, metal, fibre glass or plastics; or tubes. A resilient back-rest and seat unit c may be provided, the latter being connected to the legs or to the rails b. The cross rails b may be detachably connected to the side members a.
