Abstract

1,137,439. Projection lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. 23 Nov., 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No. 52495/66. Heading H1F. A projection lamp comprises an envelope 2 having a number of lead-in wires sealed into the base, a filament 28 connected to two of the lead-in wires, a reflector 20 mounted within the envelope to reflect light from the filament and a probe 50 mounted on one of the lead-in wires to extend parallel to and close to the filament and connected by way of a high resistance to an external terminal between which and the filament a voltage source is connected in use. The effect of the probe is to reduce blackening of the bulb. The reflector 20 has a central aperture in which is fitted a ceramic plug 22 carrying filament support wires 24, 26 and being secured in places by wedges. A steel spring clip fits over the rear of the plug 22 and carries at the lower part a U-brace 48 to which struts 44, 46 are attached, the other end of the struts being secured to lead-in wires 16, 17. The filament 28 extends between the supports 24, 26 and a ballast filament 30 from the support 26 to a rod 32 connected to the lead-in wire 14 (not shown). A fuse in a glass sleeve connects one lead-in wire to the support 24. The lead-in wire 16 also carries a probe 50 of molybdenum wire parallel to and a few millimetres from the filaments 28, 30 and connected to a resistance formed by a thin line of graphite painted on the header between the lead-in wires 14, 16.
