Abstract
1,128,251. Independent rear suspensions; controlling toe-in. ALAN MANN RACING Ltd. 10 April, 1967 [8 Jan., 1966], No. 985/66. Headings B7D and B7H. A vehicle wheel spring suspension comprises a drive shaft B with two universal joints 21 interconnecting a hub-carrier C and a chassismounted differential unit A, an A-shaped arm D which is mounted below and generally parallel to the drive shaft B, has its apex connected to the bottom of the hub carrier C by a ball-joint 41 and has its ends 42, 43 pivoted to the chassis or differential unit A in a common horizontal plane, a radius arm E pivoted to the hubcarrier C at the height of the hub axis, an adjustable arm F which controls the toe-in or toe-out of the hub 23 and is of the same length as, parallel to and at the same height as the drive-shaft B, and spring means G. The spring means G may comprise two spring/damper units interconnecting the arm D and the chassis and arranged on opposite sides of the drive shaft B, or a single spring/damper unit connected to the hub carrier C at 72.
