Abstract

1,124,294. Feeding tobacco. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. 2 Sept., 1965 [11 Sept., 1964], No. 37375/64. Heading A2C. The tobacco rod forming apparatus described in Specification 1,101,071 is modified in that the shorts collected in the funnel 37 and fed by valve 40 into manifold 42 are then fed via a pipe 43 to a reservoir 45. The shorts are then fed by a band 48 provided with serrated slats 53 into a duct 26 from which they are sucked into the duct 19 up which the main rod forming stream of tobacco travels, the level or shorts in the reservoir is maintained by a roller 55 on an arm 54, movement of which controls the speed of drive of the band 48. The duct 19 leads to an air pervious conveyer band on the underside of which the tobacco rod is formed. The conveyer band travels perpendicular to the plane of the Figure and in a direction away from the viewer. The reservoir 45 and band 48 extend across only twothirds of the duct 19 so that other tobacco is added from the main stream to the rod being formed after the addition of the shorts and hence upon trimming no shorts are removed from the rod.
