Abstract

1,110,461. Ingot moulds. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 29 Dec., 1966 [4 Jan., 1966], No. 325/66. Heading B3F. A slab of heat insulating or exothermic material for lining the head of an ingot mould or hot top is formed of a composition which contains a fibrous constituent and incorporates rods each of " U "-shape, a first arm a of a rod being located against one face by staples 3 to permit pivoting of the rod about the axis of the arm so that the second arm c of the rod may be rotated from or near the plane of the face of the slab to a position in which it is at the maximum displacement from that plane. The length of the second arm may be less than the length of the first and the end extremity d of the first arm is bent at right-angles to the arm so that when the rod is rotated the bent extremity bears against or digs into the face of the slab. In use the arm c of a rod engages in an aperture in the top edge of the mould. In addition a spring clip 6 may be used to ensure that the slab when in use is held tightly against the mould wall.
