Abstract

1,198,200. Double hung balanced windows. GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORP. 17 Oct., 1968 [20 Nov., 1967], No. 49340/68. Heading E1J. In a double hung sliding sash window, a balance guide 20 of extruded vinyl resin for balancing means 40 and of length equal to the length of each of the sashes 11, 12 engage each stile 11a, 12a of the sashes and extends laterally outwards to engage and interlock with the jamb liner 22 of extruded vinyl resin and leaf springs 33 are carried by the balance guides 19 and .engage the jamb liners 22 for resiliently supporting the sashes. Each sash is pivoted at its lower rail by pins 26 to the balance guides 19 so that the sashes can be tilted out of the vertical inwardly for cleaning purposes and for this reason the upper sash 12 is not so wide as the lower sash 11 and the jamb liners 22 of the Upper sash 12 being laterally offset inwardly with respect to the jamb liners 22 of the lower sash. Plastics blocks 36 are secured in the balance guides 19 at laterally spaced portions and the leaf springs 33 are attached to these blocks, which also carry draught excluding strips 39 perpendicular to guides 19 and engage the jamb liner 22. Sealing means 50 including, e.g. fibrous strips whose bases are secured to a carrier plate 52 (not shown), are secured to the jamb liner, at the meeting zone of the meeting raits of the sashes to close the space which results from the different widths of the sashes.
