A reinforced concrete roofing or flooring element comprises a channel shaped elongated lower part 1, Fig. 7, having side and end walls each being reinforced by metal rods and an upper part in the form of a flat concrete slab 2 which is connected to the lower part along the upper side wall edges thereof, a layer 8 of heating insulating material such as expanded cork being provided between the slab 2 and the side walls of the part 1. A compressible rubber strip 26 may be interposed between the slab 2 and the layer 8 to provide a measure of sound insulation between the slab 2 and the part 1, but the slab 2 may directly engage the layer 8, Fig. 1 (not shown) and the layer 8 then may be provided with a V-shaped slot 28, Fig. 9 which closes as the load on the slab increases, with the purpose of providing a measure of sound insulation. Vent holes 15, Fig. 6, may be provided through the insulating material 8 so that the interiors of adjacent elements may communicate and so that the interior of an element at the edge of a roof may communicate with the atmosphere, permitting a flow of air through the roof in response to winds or as a result of convection currents when the roof is sloped, as in Fig. 5 (not shown). The interiors of the channels may be partly filled with insulation. A lath 25 in an opening in the bottom of the part 1 may be provided to reduce the flow of heat through the bottom over a supporting wall 18.
