Abstract

1,170,256. Two-part couplings. PAINTON & CO. Ltd. 1 Dec., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 39272/66. Heading H2E. A contact 50 for an edge connector 30 comprises a metal strip bent back on itself at 51 to provide a terminal stem 52 and two parallel arms 55 having, towards their free ends, convex edge regions 56 which make independent contact with the same track of a printed circuit or plug inserted in the connector. As shown, the two arms 55 of the contacts are of unequal length and are located in cavities 33, between sidewalls 31, 32, by means of tongues 53, integral with stems 52 which engage recesses 41 in slits 40; the cavities 33 are separated from one another by barrier walls 34 and are divided longitudinally by webs 38 to isolate the contacts from one another, the barrier walls being provided with slots 35 defining socket 36 with a flared mouth 37. In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), each contact comprises a single stem integral with two bifurcated contact arms, one being the mirror image of the other.
