Abstract
1,150,914. Fragmentation projectiles. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 21 Sept., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 42227/66. Heading F3A. Fragmentation projectile, e.g. anti-aircraft missile, comprises an explosive charge 62 contained within a metal or plastics casing (represented by the criss-cross lines) and on which casing are held juxta-posed, pre-shaped, metal fragments (not shown) of simple geometrical shape, e.g. paralellepiped, the sizes of the fragments increasing along the axis of the projectile from the front to the rear. Fragments of equal size can be arranged together in areas over the casing. The explosive charge 62, which may be barrel-shaped, is exploded at its centre when the target enters a conical radiation pattern beamed forwardly of the projectile by a proximity fuze. The largest fragments are projected rearwardly in the area 1 whilst the smallest fragments are projected forwardly in the area 3. Intermediate sized fragments are projected in the area 2.
