Abstract

Triggering process, for the explosive charge of a high explosive shell, comprises a number of ignition points which are arranged in the explosive in an eccentric manner with respect to the axis of the projectile. The explosive charge is triggered by means of one or more target position-finding devices, e.g. photoelectric cells, in active association with one or more of the ignition points; the latter are diametrically opposite the devices with which they are associated and are on the side of the charge away from the taret. In the case of flying targets the shell fragments, instead of being distributed uniformly around the axis of the projectile are directed in a single, preferential direction in which they can have the maximum effect.
