Abstract

1,033,339. Steam baths. L. Q. MURRAY. Oct. 30, 1964, No. 44487/64. Heading A4N. In a steam bath cabinet of rigid material, the steam is generated by a water dripfeed on to a heated plate. A cabinet of glass fibre reinforced plastic has doors 19, 20 which are held closed by magnetic catches and .foot 24 and arm 23 rests which are covered with expanded polystyrene. A compressed gas cylinder is housed beneath seat 13 and has a delivery pipe connected to a burner 18 through valves 6 and 8. Valve 8 is manually operated from the rear of the apparatus and valve 6 is controlled by a weighted lever which normally falls to close it. The lever is supported by a pivoted arm connected to a safety lever which extends across the front of the cabinet neck opening. Should the bather fall forward, the arm is displaced, by movement of the lever, allowing the weighted lever to fall and cut off the gas. A handle 14 operates a metering valve to control the flow of water from the tank 12 on to a stainless steel plate. A clockwork timer may be used to close a water supply valve after a predetermined interval and a gas supply valve after a further interval. An electrical heating arrangement with safety devices and timer control is also described.
