Abstract

1,021,834. Cans. K. KAWAMATA. Nov. 6, 1962, No. 41967/62. Heading B8D. A can has a cover sheet 5 and a seamless tube 7 seamed to the upper edge of the can body 1. The cover sheet has an annular groove 4 adjacent a peripheral rim 3 which rests on a flange 2 formed by turning outwards the upper edge of the can body. The seamless tube is turned up and out at its lower end to form an annular rim 8 and this end is inserted into the groove 4. The annular rims 2, 3 and 8 are then seamed together. A cover 11 is provided and a spoon or the like may be placed in the compartment formed between this cover and the cover sheet 5. The tube and can body may be of metallic sheet, and the tube formed by drawing the sheet and cutting off the closed end of the member so formed. The tube may have an annular groove 10; and the cover sheet may be of metallic foil, sheet metal or synthetic resin.
