Abstract

1,014,138. Scraping chain conveyers. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. June 22, 1964 [June 22, 1964], No. 25702/64. Heading B8A. A method for securing a double-chain scraper conveyer when any repair work becomes necessary includes making the chains fast in one direction by a wedge shoe 25 and in the other direction by blocking the chain drive sprocket wheels 23, 24 by pawls 31, 32. The wedge shoe 25 comprises two spaced wedge plates 26, 27 interconnected by a handle 28 and a base plate 29. The wedge plates 26, 27 engage under a scraper bar 17 when the upper run of the conveyer is moved away from the drive head 21 and the bar 17 is jammed between the plates and the upper walls of channel members 12, 13 between which is secured the base plate 14 of the conveyer pans. The base plate 29 of the wedge shoe 25 is prevented from moving by engagement with the joint line of adjacent pans. The chain portions extending from the shoe 25, around the reversing drum at the remote end of the conveyer and along the lower conveyer run to the drive drum 22 are put in tension by driving the drum. The drum is then locked by pivoted pawls 31, 32 which pass through links 34 of the chains and engage between adjacent teeth 35 of the drive sprockets. The pawls allow a forward but not reverse motion of the sprocket wheels. The sections 36, 37 of the chains are then relieved of tension and repairs to this section can be effected.
