Abstract

1,012,879. Piston rings. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO (1938) Ltd. Nov. 2, 1964, No. 44601/64. Heading F2T. A piston-and-ring assembly comprises a split ring of L- or V-section housed in a groove 3 in the piston and urged both radially outwards and against one side of the groove by a spring 6 compressed between the juncture of the legs 4, 5, Fig. 1, 8, 9, Fig. 3, and the opposite side of the groove. The spring 6 is in the form of a cockle ring and in Fig. 1 bears against the corner angle 7. The edges of the legs of the ring may be chamfered as at 13, Fig. 3. Specifications 871,690, 913,734 and 930,250 are referred to.
