Abstract

1,092,771. Electromagnets. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. May 21, 1965 [May 23, 1964], No. 21524/65. Heading H1P. In an A.C. electromagnet, the yoke 11 is biased against a housing 15 by springs 13, 14 so as to prevent excess current due to the non- closure of the air gap between poles 18 and armature 17. During normal operation, the armature 16 is attracted towards the pole 18 so as to deflect member 19 which operates hydraulic apparatus. If the armature is prevented from moving into contact with pole 18, the yoke 11 will be deflected against the bias of springs 13, 14 so as to close the air gap and minimize the current in coil 12. Conical springs 13, 14 may be employed having a characteristic matching the force-gap characteristic of the magnet. In order to ensure that the full force is initially applied to the armature 16, the yoke 11 may be provided with an oil-filled damper or may have mass considerably greater than that of a conventional yoke.
