Abstract

1,087,130. Vehicle suspension. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 29, 1966 [Oct. 14, 1965], No. 34081/66. Addition to 1,025,227. Heading B7D. A motor vehicle suspension comprises a pair of wheel support members 1, 2, each mounted in the vehicle by a resilient pivot 3, 4 which permits the member to pivot about a horizontal axis and to some extent about a vertical axis, and a link 5, 6. The wheels, 7, 8 are fixed to stub shafts rotatably mounted in the members 1, 2 and connected by universal joints 9, 10 to fixed length half shafts 11, 12. The half shaft 11 is connected by a universal joint to one output member of the differential gear 15 and the other half shaft 12 is fixed to the other output shaft of the differential gear which comprises inner and outer part-spherical parts concentric with the axis of the universal joint which is the pivotal axis of the half shafts. A support arm 17 is connected to the outer member of the differential gear, which is fixed to the vehicle, and by a link 18 to the vehicle. The link 18 is offset from the centre line of the vehicle.
