Abstract
1,082,010. Hydraulic control of crane winches. RHEINSTAHL UNION BRUCKEN BAU A.G. Nov. 12, 1965 [Nov. 17, 1964], No. 48097/65. Heading B8B. In a mobile crane having at least one rope drum provided with a clutch and a load brake which are controlled by fluid pressure in response to movements of a lever 1, the load brake is operated by a double-acting ram 36 with a spring. When fluid is directed to one side of the ram piston the brake is released against the spring pressure and when fluid is directed to the other side of the ram piston the brake is applied by fluid pressure. Movement of lever 1 towards the side H engages a rope-drum driving clutch by expanding a cylinder 24 and also releases the load brake so that a load may be hoisted. To lower a load the lever is moved towards S thus applying a brake band 17 to a drum 16 which is coupled to the winch motor by planetary gears, and simultaneously releasing the load brake. The foot pedal 4 is inoperative. To convert to hand lever and pedal operation a control valve 6 is moved to the right closing the connection between pipes 28, 29 and connecting pipes 40, 30. The brake may now be released against its spring by the pedal 4. If, in addition to the above, a control valve 9 is switched over so that pipes 34, 46 are connected and pipes 35, 47, the brake will be applied by fluid pressure when the pedal 4 is depressed. Fig. 7a (not shown) illustrates a modified control circuit in which pressure regulators 2a, 3a replace cylinders 2, 3 of Fig. 1. To switch to lever and pedal operation the valves 6, 9 are adjusted as previously described. The spring which applies the brake in the ram 36 is locked out of operation by a bar moved by a Bowden cable.
