Abstract

1,079,484. Detonators. TELEDYNE Inc. Feb. 28, 1966, No. 8621/66. Heading F3A. A detonator for initiating an explosion or deflagration through a bulkhead without penetrating the bulkhead, comprises an adaptor 20 for fixing to the bulkhead. A recess on one side of a solid partitioning part 56 houses a donor charge 22 and a recess on the other side of the part 56 houses an acceptor charge 24 which is ignited by the shock wave on ignition of the donor charge without rupturing the part 56. The acceptor charge fires a detonating charge 26 which is enclosed by a thin steel plate 32. A fuze 18, 12 is coupled to the adaptor by a coupling 14. In a modification, a loose ignition charge (26<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 3 (not shown) extends through a grain propellant (70). Charge (26<SP>1</SP>) is contained within a steel spacer (48), fibre glass spacer (46), rubber-silicon ring (44) and a retainer (42) to attenuate the output of the pickup charge (24<SP>11</SP>). The donor charge (22<SP>1</SP>) is closed by a steel plate (52). In another modification, a threaded sleeve (60) holds the ignition charge (26). A foraminous trap (62) covers the pick-up charge (24<SP>1</SP>). A booster charge (69) precedes the donor charge (22<SP>1</SP>). The donor is a crystalline H.E. charge from a group of secondary H.E.'s consisting of pentaerythrite, tetranitrate and cyclonite which react with a velocity in excess of 3000 feet per second. 1,079,532. A gas burner is is formed of an aluminium alloy hollow body 10 and a cap 11, the cap 11 having a depending peripheral wall 12 in which are provided four groups of eight flame ports 13, Fig. 3 (not shown), and within which burner there is provided a baffle device 23 which obstructs communication through the burner ulterior. The baffle device comprises four upright walls 24; 25, 26, 27 at right-angles to each other which may rest on the diverging portion 21 of the body 10 or be secured by a bolt (not shown) in a tapped hole 28. The underside of the cap 11 is formed with a T-shaped groove 17, Fig. 3, having limbs 18, 18a, 19 in which baffle walls 24, 25, 27 are located when the cap is in position on the body 10. A spigot 20 on the cap is located in a notch 30 in wall 26. When the burner is assembled the groups of ports 13 are separated by the baffle walls and communication between adjacent groups is made by an ignition port 15 and crosslighting ports 14. In the embodiment of Figs. 4-7 (not shown) the baffle walls are formed integrally with the cap, the lower ends of walls 24a and 26a having ears 33, 34 which are received in slots 35, and 36, at the upper end of body 10a.
