1,059,389. Returning combustion products to furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. May 21, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 21102/64. Heading F4B. In a vapour generator heated by burners 24 on the front wall of a combustion chamber 10 and having a nose 25 projecting from the rear wall below a horizontal gas pass with heat exchange elements 34, 35, combustion gases withdrawn from a point beyond the heat exchange surfaces in a divided down-pass 41, 42 are fed by a fan 47 to a plenum chamber 51 between the rear wall of the combustion chamber 10 and the front wall of the down-pass for delivery immediately below the nose 25 through ports formed in the rear wall by displacing groups of adjacent wall tubes outwardly for a short distance.
