Abstract

727,218. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1953 [Aug. 13, 1952], No. 22226/53. Class 51 (1). A slag-tap steam-generator furnace comprises a cylindrical furnace chamber 1 disposed with its axis horizontal and having a gas-outlet throat 20 leading to a radiation chamber 2, together with fuel firing means which discharge downwardly into the furnace chamber through the upper roof-like part thereof at an angle to the horizontal of approximately 45 degrees. The fuel-firing means comprise pulverized fuel burners 4, 5, with which are associated secondaryair nozzles 6, 9. In a modification the burners and secondary-air nozzles are replaced by cyclone furnaces and the radiation chamber is corner-fired by pulverulent-fuel burners.
