Abstract

1,058,200. Films. G. BRUCKNER, [trading as BRUCKNER-TROCKNERBAU]. Oct. 9, 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963], No. 41219/64. Heading B5B. A web material, especially a thermoplastic film 2 in a stretching apparatus (not shown) is heated by means of warm air emerging under pressure from a plurality of nozzles disposed on at least one side of the web of material in several rows spaced at intervals, the nozzles 6 being disposed so that at least some of the nozzles direct air obliquely towards the longitudinal edges of the web, so that the air has a component of movement parallel to the width of the web. Each row of nozzles 6 may (as shown) be arranged in a V-formation and the nozzles 6 may direct air against the direction of web movement. Preferably, the nozzles are provided in the face of at least one pressure chamber 3 opposite the web of material, each row of nozzles being located on one slope of a ridge in the face of the pressure chamber. Air is admitted to the chambers at 4. The use of inclined nozzles in V-shaped rows provided a stronger supply of air at the edge zones of the web, so that heating of the material is more uniform.
