Abstract
894,237. Drying apparatus. SOC. AMELIORAIR. July 1, 1960 [July 9, 1959], No. 23039/60. Class 34(1) Apparatus for drying a continuous, gaspermeable sheet formed of threads 1 comprises nozzles 4 on one side of the sheet having slotshaped outlets for projecting flat jets of hot air at high speeds through the sheet, and deflecting means on the other side of the sheet for compelling at least a portion of the air to flow back through the sheet in the opposed direction before being evacuated through a heat-exchanger 3 from which the air is recycled by a blower 2 to the nozzles. The deflector means comprise gutters 5, each having a width equal to one half of the distance between the outlet slots of two adjacent nozzles. The gutters adjoin each other to form ridges parallel to the outlets with every second ridge located opposite one of the outlets to divide the air jet therefrom into portions which are deflected towards and through the sheet. The side walls of the nozzles together with horizontal partitions 6 form channels 7 parallel to the outlets to collect the air after its second passage through the sheet, which air flows from the channels 7 into a chamber, the outer walls of which form the outer casing of the apparatus, from which chamber the air flows to the heat-exchanger for recycling.
