Abstract

1,052,965. Coffee making apparatus. PALIZ A.G. May 1, 1964 [May 17, 1963; Jan. 8, 1964; April 9, 1964], No. 18292/64. Heading A4D. In a brewing chamber, coffee-making materials move downwardly, parallel to the axis of an annular flow path, surrounding an axially movable control member. When coffee grounds have been supplied to chamber 1, via throat 2, single control member 210, having two O-ring seals 11, 11a, closes throat 2 and a waste outlet 204. The control member 210 is formed with a plunger portion 210c and a filter carrying piston portion 210b. Portion 210b may be used either to compress the grains 3 prior to infusion, or, alternatively to squeeze the beverage out of them after the supply of hot water from line 205 has been shut off. The coffee beverage is forced, by steam or hot water pressure, through line 206. To wash out the spent grounds, portion 210b is withdrawn from the lower end of chamber 1. In another form, (Figs. 1-3, not shown) it is raised to clear discharge outlet 4.
