Abstract
1,047,366. Molecular beams. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. July 22, 1965 [July 22, 1964], No. 31371/65. Heading G6P. A deuterium ion source provides an ion beam which is incident upon a target containing deuterium or tritium to produce neutrons from a deuterium-deuterium or deuterium-tritium reaction. The ion source is pulsed by simultaneously maintaining the extraction voltage constant while supplying a pulsed H.F. electric field within the ion source. The presence of the H.F. field increases the probability of ionization and a pulse length of less than one microsecond is envisaged. The H.F. injection into the source is effected by two ring electrodes coupled to the output of an oscillator.
